Boys & Girls Clubs are the centerpiece to any community. Great cities have a Boys & Girls Clubs and for the last 15 years, annually 1,200 youth have come through the doors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Malibu (BGCM) to be mentored and engage in inspirational activities.

In 2000 the BGCM was created as a prevention tool by a small group of concerned community members who recognized Malibu’s shortcomings when it came to productive activities for teens combined with isolationism.

Since its inception, the BGCM has thrived and been dedicated to mentoring middle and high school students during their most critical decision-making years, providing them with programs that create confidence and helping to build positive relationships that will support them through high school. And in August of 2015 the BGCM opened its two newest sites on the campuses of Juan Cabrillo Elementary school and Point Dume Marine Science School, providing vital programs and services to the k-5th population. Over the years the BGCM has grown and become so much more than this.

The BGCM is committed to responding to the ongoing needs of the community; providing safe, affordable, professionally staffed Clubhouses with inspiring opportunities for kids to grown and learn. Because of the communities support they've been able to keep the doors open.

We, the Malibu Half Marathon, were carried away by the passion and the commitment of the staff and volunteers and decided to make BGCM our flagship charity.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOO. EVERY EFFORT COUNTS!

STORIES FROM THE CLUB

MISAEL ESPINOZA

Misael is the Leaders In Training Assistant at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Malibu.
The oldest of three siblings, Misael arrived with his family from Mexico and entered 6th grade at Malibu Middle School. With English as his second language, he struggled to adapt to a new country and a new culture. But at the club, where he worked as an intern during high school, Misael discovered a supportive network of staff and peers. With the club’s assistance, he became one of the first immigrant students to attend a university under the Dream Act. Misael is currently working at the club as a Leaders In Training assistant while finishing his degree at CSU Channel Islands. He continues to inspire club members and his younger siblings, who are following in his footsteps by pursuing higher education themselves.
