The Ultimate High-Seas Endurance Challenge

Marathon Start Photo On November 13, 2011 MIM will add a new dimension to the race with first ever Malibu SUPathlon, a run and a stand up paddleboard (SUP) competition. This latest evolution was inspired by the city’s rich surf tradition and designed to give athletes a chance to experience all the natural wonders Malibu has to offer.

Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) offers an incredible full body workout. Described by enthusiasts as like walking on water, being at your full height on the paddleboard guarantees tremendous views of everything from dolphins to the untouched coastline. The SUPathlon will feature one distance, a seven-mile run and a six-mile paddle with three divisions including a two-person relay.

Every event is a run followed by a paddle. This lessens the likelihood of torn muscles on athletes going from static standing to fast running. The barefoot finish line will be at Zuma Beach for all SUPathlon events where paddlers will be greeted with a Hawaiian-style Luau complete with fire-dancers.

Meet The Race Directors
Former Mayor, current Council member and one of the youngest people elected to serve on the Malibu City Council –Pamela has been with us from the beginning.  Not only has she been a champion of this race but she’s one of most committed athletes we know!

Why do you run?
I really wasn't much of a "runner" until I was about 28 years old when I was thrown out of my bed at 4:30 in the morning on January 17, 1994 (the Northridge Earthquake).  After that day, I started a bucket list of things I want to do before I die.

I signed up for the 1994 LA Marathon and finished it in, you guessed it, 4 hours and 30 minutes.  Although I have added a few more years and pounds, I have tried to keep running ever since.

I love training for and participating in the Malibu Triathlon and especially the new Malibu Marathon, although I only sign up for the 1/2. These events push me to run on days when I really would rather crawl back into bed.  I always feel better after I go for a run, it gives me an excuse to unplug, get some fresh air and appreciate nature.

What's your favorite running fuel and why?
My favorite running fuel is a GO GO Green Shake. It is a modified version of the Lean Gene Protein Shake from Malibu's own Vitamin Barn.
• 1/2 fozen banana
• 1 teaspon coconut oil
• 1 tablespoon almond butter
• 1 scoop California natural greens
• 1 teaspoon Matcha green tea
• 20 grams protein powder
• 6 ounces of almond milk.
(Lean Gene shake as almond butter & a date which I leave out).

Meet Pamela Conley

You're a legacy Malibu Marathon runner, what keeps you coming back?
Wow!  I feel honored.  The Malibu Marathon is simply the most beautiful course on the planet!  I must confess I only do the Malibu 1/2 Marathon because after I run it, I still feel energized when I am done.   As I was running last year, I looked out at the Pacific Ocean and saw a pod of dolphins swimming with me for a few minutes.

Running in the Malibu Marathon gives me the opportunity to be a part of a pod of amazing people, many are friends and neighbors and some are new kindred spirits who just run for fun.

I also want to run this year to help raise funds for Childhelp USA and the Mother Daughter WINGS group to give back.  I was inspired by how the Malibu Triathlon raised nearly a million dollars last year for Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and I hope that the Malibu Marathon can help raise money for the many worthy causes it endorses.

We thank you for your registration and look forward to seeing you at the starting line.
