New/Noteworthy: Shopping in Paradise
Last month we tipped you off to our new favorite spots to eat and drink. This time it’s all about retail therapy and what you can score in the Malibu Country Mart. This shopping list is not exhaustive, so for local runners – find us on Twitter and Facebook to weigh-in too!
No cookie-cutter shopping experiences here (Take Pacific Coast Highway north into Malibu and turn right on Cross Creek Road):
Need something fabulous to bring back for your biggest (and maybe youngest) fan(s)? Stop into Kolletti Bambini a boutique specializing in children’s wear and accessories store for children ages 0-10. They rigorously handpick everything from renowned designers in the U.S., Spain, Italy, France and more.
Diesel, a Book Store
Known for their fascinating selection of titles, riveting author events, diverse staff, and California aesthetic, Diesel, A Bookstore is the cutting-edge independent neighborhood bookstore we all want to spend our days browsing through and being inspired by.
Malibu is where it all started for this local-star boutique turned international brand. Planet Blue endures to pay tribute to its earthy roots, by leading the way as the lifestyle and fashion destination of Southern California. It offers everything that is fashion, braided with the colorful threads of bohemian beach culture.
Part art gallery and part boutique, CANVAS is a concept store founded on an appreciation of contemporary art and design. Their mission is to reflect the artistry of the day in its various forms and fashions – clothes, shoes, accessories and collectibles. Check out their blog too.
2 weeks Left: Consider Crosstraining
Our friends with Team Christopher and Team for Life (a few of the best around at raising money for cancer) recently reminded us about the benefits of cross training. We thought we pass along the highlights of what we learned.
Whether you’re training for your first half marathon or your fifth Malibu Marathon, cross training is a valuable resource for endurance racing. While running can be amazing for your body, mind, and spirit, doing long stints of the same running motion repeatedly can cause fatigue, injury and even boredom.
Incorporating cross training into your training plan can help you get the most out of your work out and your body.
Cross training teaches your body to use the maximum amount of oxygen needed to be beneficial in your particular sport, but in different forms of exercise. Exercises such as swimming, bike riding, and even walking, strengthen and tone the same muscles we use for running.
The most important tip for an effective cross training routine is to come up with a training plan ahead of time and stick with it!
Need for a reason to run? Join a charity, help them raise funds for their cause, and give meaning to your run by making every mile count.
Malibu International Marathon Association is an approved 501 (C) (3) by the Internal Revenue Service and all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.
